    Default site engine optimisation

There is SO much info on this on the web. Can anyone point me to a simple
informative site without overloading my already overloaded brain.

    Thanks.

Search Engine Optimization is the specialized side of web site marketing. Most web designers I know do not do SEO. They build the site with a certain amount of SEO in mind and then hand it off to the client to hire a marketing expert. Really good SEO experts charge as much as $1,000/day. Some so-called SEO experts sell nothing more than snake oil. You need to beware of claims like "I can get your site on Google's top 10 without ads" Such claims are 99.9% hogwash.

Having said all this, I think you can learn a great deal on your own from various on-line sources. Just keep in mind that none of this is a substitute for having good content on your site. Well-written content is rich with your keywords and phrases, descriptive page titles, text based navigation and appropriately used headings (h1, h2 & h3 tags). If you do all that, you're in good shape.

Here are a few links to get you started.

Thanks so much for this Nancy. I've only clicked on the first link so far and found that enormously helpful.

On same theme, can I ask your advice re what to choose in the html output. I've chose dynamic page layout as I thought that would be better suited to the range of browsers but should I change to site setting to increase likelihood of google finding? Will it make any difference to my pages.

    Thanks.
