Use publish view to publish the singe page you are working on. You do not want to do a full site publish as you do not want your "test/temp" page to appear in the menu structure on every page of the web site, you only want to edit and test to get it working without goofing up the original page that works now.

You can do a local publish and test or upload and test as the action is a full URL so the form should work on your computer just as well as on the server. You can use WS_FTP to upload and test it if you would rather do that

Got it! I didn't realize all these years you could publish a single new
page. But now I think I understand it. The reason I've had to publish the
whole site for a new (permanent) page was so the navbars etc would work
throughout -- and now I don't want them to.

Thanks a whole bunch - sometimes it's the basic, simple things we've not
    seen.

But I am curious as to whether or not this "import" advice works - and if
    not, why not.

    Wow..... Let's see....

Fusion is a database program that generates HTML from the stored database. Just like an accounting program is a database program that generates a profit and loss report except the report that Fusion generates is HTML pages (not financial pages)

Just like any database program the data is integral in how it operates. If you do not have the data needed to generate the report (the HTML page) you cannot get a good report (good HTML output).

Starting with the report and trying to rebuild the database is very difficult and something that has plagued Fusion since it was released.

Imaging loosing your accounting data and trying to rebuild your information from the paper profit and loss report. Not a chance. You would have to manually re-enter every transaction to be able to generate your P & L again. It is the same with Fusion. If you do not have the data (the ???.nod file) you have to recreate it. Using the "import from web page" works (sometimes) but it is never as successful as starting all over with a blank site/page and plopping graphics where you want them and pasting text where you need it.

You will find that you will spend more time trying to clean up an "import of HTML" then you will spend if you just create a blank page and copy/paste the text and insert the graphics where you want them.

I know this is not the answer most people want to hear but from experience this is what I have found works the best (start all over again if you have not exported the site project as a template)

I'll second that, based on personal experience before I
finally realized what a NOF "template" actually is/was. The
beauty of the templates, besides backup is that you can
pre-pend dates to the files as a poor man's versioning system.
And if you use the ISO date format, they sort wonderfully
    (2010-04-22)( yyyy-mm-dd).
Whoever chose "template" for that description should have
their tongues assaulted with billions of bits of bytes! <g>.
