I've just found out that my host control panel provides an option to create an SQL database.

I've had a go, created a table, added some entries, am i going in the right direction with this?

Are you up for writing a series of database administration pages? You can log in and manipulate the database directly through your control panel's PHPmyAdmin interface or get a program such as navicat or Heidi and running it in a front end from your computer.

using notepad to write a text file and uploading it when you want to change the scroller text is a LOT simpler.

If you don't have a problem adding/editing database tables from the control panel interface you can give it a go if you want.

OK Mike thanks, I would like to get up to speed with the database stuff at some point as im sure it's going to be useful in the long run...

However, taking your point on board about the text files, would i require a text file for each of my scroller text entries or can they all be contained within one text file?

    Regards, J

using the simple include file method I described would require a separate file for each scroller.

you may want to do a search for a scroll script that reads a text file
